Living the Rhythm: A Day in the Life at Our Bahia Surf & Yoga Retreat, Brazil

There’s a certain softness that Brazil invites out of you.

Not the kind that makes you passive — but the kind that loosens your grip. On urgency. On perfection. On who you think you need to be. Life here moves to a rhythm that’s older than schedules and quieter than ambition. And somewhere between the ocean and the mat, you start remembering yourself again.

Working at this Surfcamp Brazil has felt less like a job and more like a daily practice in presence — a lived experience of slow travel in Brazil, guided by nature, movement, and community.

Morning: Ocean First, Always

My days begin with sound — the hush and pull of the Atlantic just beyond the palms. Before work, before conversations, before thinking too much, there’s the ocean. Most mornings I walk straight to the beach barefoot, watching the light slowly land on the water. Sometimes, I move my body first — a slow, intuitive, Bahia yoga flow as the sun rises and the air is still cool. Sometimes I sit and enjoy the first glimpse of the day, somewhere between mediation and reverence.

There’s something deeply grounding about starting the day this way. No rush. No performance. Just breath, salt air, and the reminder that nature sets the pace here — not us.

By mid-morning, the retreat is alive. Guests drift toward breakfast, skin warm from early surf sessions, hair still damp, eyes brighter than when they arrived. Conversations unfold easily — the magic of the ocean, waves caught, new fears faced, muscles sore in the best way.

Breakfast is long and communal. Local, nourishing food. Coffee. Laughter. Bare feet under the table. There’s no sense of needing to rush off to the next thing — true, unhurried moments of bliss, so often missing in today’s modern world.

Midday: Holding Space & Sharing Life

During the day, my role shifts — sometimes I’m helping behind the scenes, sometimes connecting with guests, sometimes simply being available. One of the quiet gifts of this place is how naturally people open. Something about surfing humbles you. Something about yoga softens you. Put the two together, and honesty starts to surface.

I’ve learned that holding space doesn’t always mean offering answers. Often it’s just listening. Letting people be exactly where they are.

Afternoon: Sun, Salt & Stillness

Afternoons stretch out gently. Some guests nap in hammocks, others journal, read, return to the beach or wander into the village. I often take this time for myself — surfing, swimming, writing, or sitting quietly somewhere beautiful doing absolutely nothing.

This retreat has taught me that rest isn’t earned — it’s essential. That slowing down doesn’t make you less productive, it makes you more alive.

As someone who has spent years unlearning urgency, and the need to be “on,” this environment has been deeply healing. Brazil doesn’t ask you to fix yourself. It simply invites you to arrive.

Evening: Golden Light & Gentle Landings

As the heat softens, we gather again. Evening yoga takes the pace of the guests’ energy. Sometimes more to give, sometimes slower, more spacious — bodies opening, minds settling. There’s often emotion here. Release. Gratitude. A sense of coming home to yourself after a full day in the elements.

Dinner is shared under fading light, stories flowing easily. The kind of conversations that feel simple but linger long after — about life experiences, transitions and what it means to truly listen to your intuition.

By nightfall, the retreat grows quiet. The stars are so bright and expansive, they feel closer here. I usually end my day the same way it began — connected to something bigger than myself, deeply tired, deeply content.

Why This Place Matters

This retreat isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about stripping away what no longer fits. The waves teach humility. The yoga teaches awareness. Brazil teaches joy — not the loud, performative kind, but the grounded kind that lives in your body.

Being here has reminded me that healing doesn’t always come through effort. Sometimes it comes through rhythm. Through community. Through letting life move you instead of resisting it.

And that’s exactly what we invite you into here.

Not a getaway from your life — but a return to it.
